India Experiences Record Renewable Energy Curtailment in September 2026

India's renewable energy capacity was curtailed by 378.52 million units in September 2026, equivalent to 1.28% of total renewable energy generation, due to transmission constraints, limited battery energy storage, and grid flexibility issues. The curtailment was mainly driven by solar power, accounting for 83% of the total, and was highest in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Experts suggest that prioritizing storage and grid management could help reduce curtailment.
