Lakhs of butterflies migrate across Tamil Nadu to Western Ghats
Lakhs of butterflies are migrating from the Eastern Ghats to the Western Ghats across Tamil Nadu to escape heavy North-East monsoon rains. Cities including Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruppur are witnessing the migration, with members of The Nature and Butterfly Society recording up to 120 butterflies per minute in some areas. The insects travel hundreds of kilometers to reach host plants in deep forests, where they will feed, mate, and lay eggs.
